After goalkeeper Dominic Livakovic saved three penalties, Croatia defeated Japan 3-1 in the penalty shootout and entered the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup 2022.
After the scheduled 90 minutes and extra 30 minutes at Al Janob Stadium, the match ended in a 1-1 draw and the match went to a penalty shootout. This is the first match in the ongoing World Cup where the result was decided by a penalty shootout after the knockout stage started.
